Edenvale residents Philip Jackson, 53, and Dillon Ensley, 21, were gunned down by armed black men while the victims were having a family-braai in the backyard, according to Beeld on Feb 26 2011. There seemed no motive for such excessive violence against an unarmed family: the socalled 'robbers' only looted a few cellphones and some cash.

Cop apparently blames the unarmed victims for being shot dead:

Present at the barbeque were Dillon Ensley, his girlfriend Stacey Jackson, 20, and her parents Pillip and Janet Jackson. Warrant officer Jean Olckers of the Edenvale police said that while the four whites were being tied up in the kitchen, Jackson was shot dead while Ensley was shot in the stomach. He died at Glynwood Hospital.

The police officer also seemed to imply that this shooting actually was the fault of the victims: "Jackson apparently jumped up in one stage to confront the 'robbers' and several shots were fired…' she told the newspaper. The loot for the deaths of two wage-earners were a few cellphones and some cash. The two women are under a doctor's treatment and were not at home when the newspaper called to interview them. Feb 25 2011 - Rhenosterfontein, Pretoria. Community-protection volunteer Japie Krynauw jumped on the back of his hijacked bakkie and hung on for dear life to try and capture the gang which had been plaguing their community. After he was spotted and shot at, the entire 100-member Conserve neighbourhood watch sprang into action to capture the black suspects who had fired two shots at 38-year-old community member Japie Krynauw while he and neighbour Willie Mans were posting along the N4 on guard-duty, looking for the gang.

Interviewed afterwards by Hilda Fourie and photographer Dean Vivier, Mr Krynauw said he and neighbour Willie Mans were posted along the N4-highway, on guard-duty: looking for an armed gang which had been spotted at 3am by the residents of two nearby farms. Suddenly two black males loomed up behind them, fired a shot towards Mr Mans, dragged them out of the bakkie, grabbing Krynauw's cellphone and flashlight, and hijacked the bakkie. Krynauw decided to jump on the tow-bar and ride along. "Usually the criminals just take our stuff and drive off. My idea was to hang on to the vehicle for a while just to see where they were going so that we could catch them, he said.

He hung on for kilometres while the gang drove his bakkie in the direction of Pretoria on the dark N4 highway from Boschkop. However when they reached Donkerhoek there were street lights and the terrorists spotted his hands grabbing the back of the bakkie while he sat on the tow-bar. They stopped and fired a shot at Krynauw who had jumped off and hid in the high grass along the berm.

SAPS captain Marissa van der Merwe said that thanks to Krynauw, the two hijacking suspects were arrested shortly thereafter by an organised group of about 100 Conserve-neighbourhood watch members who had scrambled to assist. The Rhenosterfontein residents also captured another suspected man who had burglary-tools with him.

Krynauw said while he was posting with Mans inside the bakkie when he saw two black males in his side-mirror - and before he could react one had fired a shot which hit the passenger seat. Mans was standing next to the bakkie. "When that shot went off I knew this was not a negotiating situation. I turned on the bakkie but we were dragged out while his cellphone and flashlight were ripped from his hands. The two blacks jumped in to drive off. "I asked Willie if he was OK and then jumped on the back of the bakkie, on the tow-bar. I figured I'd hang on to the back to see where they were headed.' After he was spotted and fired at on the Donkerhoek stretch of the highway, he searched for someone with a telephone to alert the community. The suspects were arrested shortly afterwards.
